Does Every Knee Replacement Need a Robot?

There is absolutely nothing “wrong” with performing knee replacement this way.
The challenge is that traditional instruments provide less information during surgery.
Surgeons are often relying on mechanical alignment guides, anatomical landmarks, and intraoperative judgment to determine implant positioning and balance.
Again, experienced surgeons can do this extremely well.
Dr. Tauchen prefers having more information available.
The Mako robotic platform is a CT-based robotic system designed to help surgeons plan and execute knee replacement surgery.
Before surgery, patients undergo a CT scan that creates a detailed three-dimensional model of the knee.
