Recovery from Hip Replacement
The Good News About Hip Replacement Recovery
One of the first questions patients ask before surgery is:
“How bad is the recovery?”
The good news is that for most patients, recovery from hip replacement is generally easier and more predictable than recovery from knee replacement.
In fact, patients who have experienced both procedures often tell Dr. Tauchen the same thing:
“The hip was much easier than the knee!”
That doesn’t mean recovery is effortless.
There will be soreness, swelling, fatigue, and good days mixed with frustrating days.
However, many patients are pleasantly surprised by how quickly they begin moving around after surgery.
One of the advantages of modern anterior hip replacement is that patients are often able to return to basic activities much sooner than they expected.
The key is understanding what is normal and avoiding the temptation to do too much, too soon.
